About Caravaggio and Bacchus (1596)
Caravaggio (1571–1610) painted Bacchus around 1596, probably for Cardinal Francesco Maria del Monte, who is thought to have given it to Grand Duke Ferdinando I de' Medici in Florence. Forgotten for centuries, it was rediscovered in the storerooms of the Uffizi in 1913. Painted in oil on canvas and measuring about 95 x 85 cm, it is in the Uffizi Galleries in Florence.
