About Claude Monet and Argenteuil, Late Afternoon (1872)
Claude Monet (1840–1926) painted this work in 1872, during his Argenteuil years, the heart of early Impressionism. The river Seine was Monet's lifelong companion. From Argenteuil in the 1870s to Vétheuil, Poissy and Giverny, he painted its bridges, boats, banks and reflections, often from a floating studio boat. It measures about 60 x 81 cm. It is held in the Museum Barberini in Potsdam (Hasso Plattner Collection).
