About Claude Monet and Skaters at Giverny (1899)
Claude Monet (1840–1926) painted this work in 1899, during his Giverny years. Monet loved the effects of winter light on snow and ice. His winter scenes — from Argenteuil and Vétheuil to Giverny and Bennecourt — reveal the blues, violets and pinks hidden in snow, frost and floating ice. It measures about 60 x 80 cm. It is held in the Museum Barberini in Potsdam (Hasso Plattner Collection).
