About Edvard Munch and The Death of Marat II (1907)
Edvard Munch (1863–1944) painted this picture in 1907 in Warnemünde, reworking the painful end of his relationship with Tulla Larsen, during which a gunshot injured his hand in 1902. The aggressive, streaky brushwork is among the most experimental of his career. Painted in oil on canvas and measuring about 153 x 148 cm, it is in the Munch Museum in Oslo.
