About Edvard Munch and Youth
This painting is by Edvard Munch (1863–1944). In 1907–1908 Munch spent long periods in the German seaside town of Warnemünde, painting bathers and workers in fresh, vigorous colour. Exhausted by years of drinking and nervous strain, he suffered a breakdown in 1908 and spent eight months in a clinic in Copenhagen before returning to Norway.
