About Francesco Napoletano and An Angel in Green with a Vielle (1490)

This panel was painted around 1490–1499 by an associate of Leonardo da Vinci, possibly Francesco Napoletano, for the elaborate altarpiece in San Francesco Grande in Milan whose central image was Leonardo's Virgin of the Rocks. It was paired with a companion angel in red playing a lute. Both side panels are now in the National Gallery in London, together with the London Virgin of the Rocks.
