About Giotto and Badia Polyptych (1301)
Giotto (c. 1267–1337) painted the Badia Polyptych around 1301–1302 for the high altar of the Badia Fiorentina, the ancient Benedictine abbey in the heart of Florence. It stood there until 1568, when it was replaced by a painting by Giorgio Vasari. Painted in tempera and gold on panel and measuring about 91 x 334 cm, it is in the Uffizi Galleries in Florence.
