About Giotto and Christ Carrying the Cross (Arena Chapel Engraving)

Giotto (c. 1267–1337) painted the original fresco around 1303–1305 in the Arena Chapel, also known as the Scrovegni Chapel, in Padua, for the banker Enrico Scrovegni. This print was engraved by the Dalziel Brothers after a drawing by W. Williams and published in London by the Arundel Society, which was founded in 1848 to make early Italian paintings known to a wider public. The series was issued in the 1850s with a text by John Ruskin. The image measures about 27 x 29 cm.
