About Henri Matisse and Odalisque (1925)
Henri Matisse (1869–1954) painted this odalisque in 1925 in Nice, where he spent much of each year from 1917. The odalisque theme connected him with the long tradition of Orientalist painting in France, and it became one of the great subjects of his Nice period. Painted in oil on canvas and measuring about 46 x 39 cm, it is in the Museo del Novecento in Milan.
