About Jan van Eyck and The Crucifixion and the Last Judgment (1440)

Jan van Eyck (c. 1390–1441) painted these panels around 1440–1441, near the end of his life, probably with help from his workshop. They may once have been the wings of a small triptych. Painted in oil and later transferred from wood to canvas, each panel measures about 56.5 x 19.7 cm. They are held in The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
