About Leonardo da Vinci and Sala delle Asse Lunette Decoration (1498)

Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) made this work around 1498. The Sala delle Asse in Milan's Castello Sforzesco was decorated by Leonardo around 1498 for Duke Ludovico Sforza with a spectacular canopy of intertwining trees, branches and golden knots across the vault. Long hidden beneath later paint, the decoration was rediscovered in the 1890s and has recently been the subject of a major restoration.
