The Virgin of the Rocks Poster by Leonardo da Vinci — Authentic The Virgin of the Rocks Art Print for Modern and Traditional Interiors

The figures form a gentle pyramid and seem to emerge from the darkness of the cave, their edges softened by Leonardo's famous sfumato. Mary embraces the little Baptist, who kneels in prayer, while the Christ Child raises his hand in blessing. Rocks and plants are painted with a scientist's eye. This The Virgin of the Rocks art print reproduces the deep greens, shadowed blues and glowing faces with rich, even colour.

About Leonardo da Vinci and The Virgin of the Rocks (1508)

Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) signed the contract in 1483 with the Milanese Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception, which had commissioned an elaborate sculpted altar for its chapel in San Francesco Grande three years earlier. The central panel was to be by Leonardo alone, with side panels of angels making music. The commission dragged on for years through a dispute over payment, and Leonardo painted two versions: the earlier one is in the Louvre, Paris, and this later one, worked on from the early 1490s and installed in 1508, is in oil on poplar and measures about 189.5 x 120 cm. It was sold by the church in the late 18th century, taken to England, and has belonged to the National Gallery in London since 1880.
