Wreath of Laurel, Palm and Juniper Poster by Leonardo da Vinci — Authentic Wreath of Laurel, Palm and Juniper Art Print for Modern and Traditional Interiors

Instead of a face, this side of the panel gives an 'emblematic portrait' of Ginevra. A sprig of juniper (ginepro) stands for her name, while the laurel and palm branches symbolise her intellectual and moral virtue. Muted greens on a warm, speckled brown ground give it a quietly modern, botanical look. This Wreath of Laurel, Palm and Juniper art print is perfect for minimalist, classic and Scandinavian spaces.

About Leonardo da Vinci and Wreath of Laurel, Palm and Juniper (1474)

Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) painted this emblem around 1474–1478 on the reverse of his portrait of Ginevra de' Benci. Laurel and palm were also the personal emblem of Bernardo Bembo, the Venetian ambassador to Florence, who shared a close platonic friendship with Ginevra celebrated in poems, and infrared examination has revealed his motto, Virtus et Honor, beneath hers. Painted in tempera on panel, the double-sided portrait belonged to the Princes of Liechtenstein until 1967, when it was acquired by the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
