About Michelangelo and Project for the Staircase of the Laurentian Library (1525)

Michelangelo (1475–1564) made this architectural drawing around 1525. Between 1524 and 1534 Michelangelo designed the Laurentian Library at San Lorenzo to house the Medici family's books and manuscripts. Its vestibule, with a flowing staircase, recessed columns and blind windows, broke the classical rules and became one of the most influential interiors of the Renaissance. It is in the Casa Buonarroti in Florence.
