About Michelangelo and Studies for the Libyan Sibyl (1510)
Michelangelo (1475–1564) made these studies around 1510–1511 for the figure of the Libyan Sibyl on the Sistine Chapel ceiling, one of the last figures he painted there. Soft red chalk allowed him to model muscles and light with extraordinary subtlety. It is drawn in red chalk and measures about 29 x 21 cm. It is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
