About Paul Cézanne and Basket of Fruit (1890)
Paul Cézanne (1839–1906) made this watercolour around 1890. Watercolour became one of Cézanne's favourite media in his later years. He left much of the white paper bare and laid down light, overlapping touches of colour, so that his landscapes and figures seem to vibrate with air and light. It is painted in watercolour over pencil.
