About Paul Cézanne and Sheet of Studies (1871)
Paul Cézanne (1839–1906) made this pencil drawing in 1871. Cézanne drew constantly in pencil, filling sketchbooks with studies of his family, bathers and landscapes, and copying sculpture in the Louvre and the museum in Aix — especially works by Pierre Puget and the old masters — to understand how forms turn in space. It is drawn in pencil and measures about 20.9 x 12.2 cm. It is held in the Cleveland Museum of Art.
