About Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Girl with a Blue Ribbon (1888)

Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841–1919) painted this work in 1888, during his 'dry' or Ingres period. In the mid-1880s Renoir felt he had taken Impressionism as far as it could go. Inspired by classical art and by Ingres, he adopted firmer outlines and smoother surfaces, a phase often called his 'dry' or Ingres period, which culminated in The Large Bathers of 1884–1887. It is painted in oil on canvas and measures about 56 x 46.5 cm. It is held in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon.
