About Raphael and Pietà (1504)
Raphael (1483–1520) painted this panel around 1503–1505. It comes from the predella — the row of small scenes below the main picture — of the altarpiece Raphael painted around 1504–1505 for the convent of Sant'Antonio in Perugia, known as the Colonna Altarpiece, whose main panel is in The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Painted on panel and measuring about 23.5 x 28.8 cm, it is held in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston.
