About Raphael and Studies for the Disputa (1509)
Raphael (1483–1520) made this drawing around 1509. Raphael was one of the finest draughtsmen of the Renaissance. He prepared his paintings through many drawings — quick pen sketches, careful chalk studies of figures from life and full-size cartoons — and his drawings were collected and admired even in his own lifetime. It is drawn in pen and ink and measures about 31.1 x 20.8 cm. It is held in the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
