About Rembrandt van Rijn and Abraham and Isaac (1645)
Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669) made this etching in 1645. In the 1640s Rembrandt reached the height of his powers as an etcher. Alongside religious masterpieces such as the Hundred Guilder Print he etched the countryside around Amsterdam, portraits of friends and collectors, and scenes from everyday life, increasingly adding drypoint for rich, velvety shadows. The print measures about 17 x 14 cm.
