About Rembrandt van Rijn and Large Self-Portrait (1652)

Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669) painted this work in 1652, at the height of his career and only a few years before his financial difficulties. It is one of the largest of his many self-portraits. Painted in oil on canvas and measuring about 112 x 81.5 cm, it is held in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, where it has been since 1720.
