About Rembrandt van Rijn and The Hundred Guilder Print (1648)

Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669) worked on this plate through most of the 1640s, finishing it around 1648. It combines several moments from the nineteenth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew. Its nickname comes from the report that an impression once sold for a hundred guilders, an extraordinary sum for a print at the time. The plate measures about 28 x 39.3 cm. This impression is held in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
