About Vincent van Gogh and Nursery on Schenkweg (1882)
Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) made this drawing in April 1882. In The Hague, between 1881 and 1883, Van Gogh taught himself to draw by studying ordinary working people — orphans, labourers, fishermen and the poor — in pencil, chalk and watercolour, and received his first painting lessons from his cousin by marriage, Anton Mauve. It measures about 29.6 x 58.5 cm.
